Does those sites actually helped you?

Or you ended up learning the hard way? I for one, happen to be the hardway guy most of my time. From not willing to learn and use Geocities WYSIWYG to not willing to learn XHTML until last minute decision. There is always last-minute in my life, even getting an insurance from BCBS of NC, if not something happen in the family, I couldn’t care less.

Sites

I always open my Google Reader on a tab in my browser. I check most update I feel like it, and mostly are those web stuff. With so many web design showcases and tutorial exposure, I am still, in the middle of wondering my design sense, a sense that I probably totally lost.

It got me thinking, after reading so many online, does it actually help me? Or I’m actually use the “reading moment” as an excuse to lay around doing nothing. Or maybe I’m just looking for an excuse to get myself away from really using my right brain?

The missing thing

I remember back in my freshman year in college, I borrowed $1.99 from my father. To start off my own domain thingy. Started with 1 then 2 then 3 and so on. I was so obsessed with free directory submission. Every domain name I have, I will submit it to free directory. It wasn’t until Google started to pop into my browser (Was a Yahoo! guy before).

Directory

Nowadays, I don’t know what else can help traffic if not social media. So I didn’t check any directory for few years and did not submit them as well. Nowadays, it’s all about the technique of getting/attract people to a certain site.

Most people use the word “attract” because people want more interactive, that is the missing thing back in the years. So whatever I’ve learn from the mistakes I made years back is not working today. Re-learn is the way… That explain why I hate CSS3 and HTML5 now. Unless, of course, I’m not in this field when they launch.

A few must visit sites

I have Google reader opened all the time while I’m online, subscribed to a few interesting blogs and sites that I really enjoy.

CSS Trick screenshot
As a WordPress theme developer, Digging into WP and CSS Tricks has been a good companion. Digging into WP write a comprehensive WP articles and how-to. However, CSS Tricks included a wide range of topic about online, xHTML and CSS. Smashing Magazine getting too much of useless listing site nowadays, I used to go to Smashing magazine for WP hacks.

Queness has the simplest JQuery tutorials of all time. I do believe that TutPlus is one good website. However, sometimes they have quite a hard to understand tutorials too.

Izismile
Last but not least, the entertainment – Izismile :) College humor update too slow, else I would follow them instead :)

P/S: Due to the slow loading of Twitter feed, I’d edited some function on the theme ;)
