Like people said, he creates some interesting and believable scenes, worlds and physics, but there is a big disconnect when it comes to the character’s motivation. They don’t appear to have any. As a reader I kept waiting for the “real reasons” for their behaviors to surface but was repeatedly greeted by rambling activities that lacked focus and were not motivated by passion. This is a problem with many Sci-Fi writers I’ve encountered. The sad thing about this book is that I feel the author is capable of giving these character’s life, he just gets too caught up in the plot and forgets that the best story lines are driven by characters that have depth.
