Working at home, fun? Maybe no

July, isn’t a great month for me, yet, as I took the wrong challenge. Anyway, it’s coming to an end, which is great. I can process to some other top priority stuff myself, do some green shopping, watch some movie and spend quality time at home. I spend less time with my laptop this month. It’s a surprise I manage to get away from laptop for such a long time and still comfortable with it :)

Calendar

There are still some pending job to do, and I am here trying to relax a bit. See! Being a web designer and working at home is just not as they have imagined.

I got so much distraction working at home, I may some times, become a driver and drive them around, because they thought I am free sitting at home, waiting for money to fly in. After all, at this digital age, games is the top priority for computer.

Target

Every end of the month, we both would check all our balance, to see if we reach our sales target, or perhaps, can we survive next month for the money collected this month. Though it is easy to survive over here with its low-cost living style, but saving for next move is always our priority too. That is the stress I get most of the time – Target!

How to create custom widgetized homepage in WordPress

WordPress is now known to be a CMS (Content Management System) instead of a simple blogging platform. A lot of developers like to create website using it, to save quality time on building a website and spending time styling each page.

However, a newbie to WordPress, like how it happen to me previously, would spend time styling the PHP files for a custom home page in WordPress. That will takes a long time, especially when copy need to be revise or added.

Widget Homepage

First in functions.php, we register a new widget,

Then, in index.php, we point the front page / home page of default WordPress to a place where it is widgetized to allow custom content.

Freelancer and contractor

Both may be in different field, but they are somehow, mixed together, like all other field.

Time to re-think before reply

The good thing I find being a freelancer at home is, I can rant first then reply. As a contractor, I need to reply in real-time, no hassle. I find myself stuck in the middle of conversation sometimes. Maybe I’m just a slow in replying.

Sitting is better than standing

Sit
When the project is over 70%, it became critical. I spent a few days, from morning to evening, watching over the site while I was a contractor. Details are all over the place and I have to find out where. While working from home, with a screen, I’ll just sit there and look around the monitor, at best 20 inches wide.

Inch, foot, mm and pixel

Length
It’s all about the right length and right size. I’ve been greatly dealing with inch, foot and mm again. Sometimes it is inch, sometimes it become foot and sometimes, even mm. Count and keep counting on the site. I still prefer web version of length – Pixel.

Lastly, I notice, I don’t like people, I like machine more. I need dual diagnosis to rehab and have a treatment at the same time. Time to adjust back…

It’s about trust or mean

It’s been like 6 years plus I’m in Kuala Lumpur having some fun life. One thing I did not learn and kind of regret did not do is, networking.

Networking is about changing thoughts and ideas around each other. While this happen, only one thing counts, trust, or just a mean thought.

Three layered tea

You never know you’ll get a really fresh three layered tea or just some pre-made tea.

I happen to get the chance to learn all these, this few weeks. Which is a bit late, but still, a lot to learn.

Ok! Night hour dedicated to web building, morning hour dedicated to construction. That is my life now, that’s all!

One word – Stressed

Recently I posted about me joining another field, and since it was coming to an end soon. So I thought to myself, things should coming down slow and easy. Suddenly, today is a total mess! Been quite sometimes stressed up with this field, even weight loss dietary supplement wouldn’t work that good on my diet. Notice a 2KG different already…

Friendship

Trust is just a word, it mean nothing after all. I should have learnt it before. Look around, those who talk the most, normally are the one who do the less. I normally like to hooked up with family then friends instead of stranger (now you wonder why so many corruption cases?). So, I hooked up with a friend, who is not that well but long lost. Talked as if he has all the idea about my project. I insist on having a progress check but he refused and told me that they are fine with him and nothing going to go wrong.

Things get pretty nasty currently… And we are (luckily and hopefully) going to solve it…

But giving the full authority for a guy to handling a project. Neh…
