Desktop and web applications

With the boarder usage of Internet year by year, a lot of people starting to get Internet connectivity. Most Internet user have a Facebook account, a web app that connect their friends, some, use a mobile device, ranging from iPhone, Nokia symbian, netbook, iPad and etc.

I am seeing the birth of web apps everyday. I myself, used a few web app on daily basic. Google Document, Facebook, Twitter just to name a few. Some don’t understand why would I use web apps instead of a desktop apps.

Office loading

I did install a set of Micorsoft Office 2007 in my desktop as well, because web app, like how it was named, need an Internet connection. However, it doesn’t mean a web app isn’t any better than a desktop app.

A few point about desktop application:

  • Need installation
  • Self update
  • Some cost lots of fee
  • Use without an Internet connection
  • More flexibility on customization

I limit my desktop applications and save all the possible hard dick space for my music, movies and pictures.

Google Document

A web applications is always supported by it team which manage and make sure it is stable, up and running. There is no hassle of scanning those application and waited for hours.

Of course a web applications cannot guarantee your privacy. But a desktop application can’t guarantee that as well once it infected by malware.

A few point about desktop application:

  • No need installation, maybe a registration form
  • Thousand of million developers watching and updating.
  • Most web apps are free
  • Need an Internet connection to work
  • Most customization depend on how it design it UI

However, in Malaysia, we don’t get free Internet, and we don’t get free WiFi around the town too. Hopefully Penang can achieve this?

Now that you wonder why Google Chrome OS coming out to support their own web applications? Pretty sure there are some statistic about their web applications that they did not announce.

How Twitter helps Sibu’s miracle

It is about time to believe what Internet can do for you. Seriously, enough example of the help from social media.

At early polling day in Sibu, I monitor the Twitter. Make 100% sure I did not miss a single piece of Tweet about Sibu polling going on. Early 8.00am onward the turnout only 30%+ and no miracle would happen if it was so. Some say because many Christian are still in church Sunday services. With some Tweet calling Sibu people to vote in their respective location, after 10.00am the turnout raised rapidly to 50% almost 60%, not sure why it was stated as 70% at 10.00pm though.

Twitter

I saw some volunteer are bringing their netbooks to the polling office. Especially from @Sibu4Change. I got most update from them even in Dewan Suara where people are prohibited to go in.

Work on it BN, seriously. I saw KJ did a great job on his blog and Twitter. The rest are just robotic update. No reply, no update beside last minute. I followed @NajibRazak before, all I got was his meeting agenda :?

The content of both speeches

Due to the misfortune of late Dato’ Robert Lau, Sibu has now, become the star of Malaysia. In one night, Sibu became a town that everyone is looking at, even US rate raised for unstable Malaysia political scene. Imagine how powerful Sibu can be.

Last night was the night, I finally saw those big man in politic, like, Lim Guan Eng, Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Chong Chieng Jen and etc. I go for them, not because I like them or idolise them, but merely they have more interesting content than what SUPP has to offer. I believe a lot of people are with me on this one, because…

Crowded

A lot of people are there like never before.

Speaking of the content, let me make it a quick point form, easier to understand.

SUPP speech is about:

  • Their achievement throughout the years
  • How bad opposition is in parliament (oh, twisted story)
  • Their vision on Sibu

DAP speech is about:

  • Nation concern (land, water, flood and education)
  • Their vision on corrupted politic and Malaysia
  • Humor (I think that FooChow guy from KL are there for stand up comedian)

If you ask me, I would say whatever SUPP said has an effective date, and that date is tomorrow. Exactly like side effects of diet pills, everything going to be different story. Why? Because from the day I know politic, they have been doing the same thing over and over again.

Of Bali food

Even though I am not picky with food, as long as there are something that I can fulfill my stomach, I am ready to finish the dish.

The 5 days trip to Bali is just about temples, beachs walk and foods.

Sour pork rice

Though some food is spicy, which I don’t take much, but Bali’s food (or Indonesia food) has a different spice approach. The hot is not in the mouth for long, and you still get to taste the originality of the food itself.

Nasi goreng Indonesia

Unlike what Malaysian likes, they make it so spice that you don’t taste the food but the chilies only. That is a bad food, also one that I cannot stand too much to eat.

Sandich club

Some are still dreaming that Bali is so inexpensive. But wrong! This is a tourism location, their knife is always sharper :)

Coffee

However, one thing caught my attention, the coffee. It was said that Java has the best coffee in the World and Bali has the most unique coffee in the World. The name is Kopi Luwak.

Luwak

Luwak is a mammal that look like a fox. They eat coffee bean, but their digesting system does not melt the bean and let it out in the end of the day.

Luwak shit

That is the Luwak shit in dry condition. They purposely dry it for the visitor to see how it originally look like before they process to flour it. Well, the cost? RM32 per small cup.

Drink

By now, you know how generous Starbucks are eh?

The 5 days are filled with foods and sculptures, I am deeply in love with all those sculptures and the old temple design Bali has. Going to need the best weight loss pills to control my weight now :)
