Why the thumbnails aren’t showing in IE9?

I get a quick awkward email this morning when a client emailed me and told me something wrong with… IE9? So I went on and download IE9 preview to check out if I need to… Debug again.

It turned out to be the bug in IE9 Preview, or probably I should say it is just a beta (?). I find it lack on speed (very usual IE) and still bugging too.

However, good thing is, IE9 support some commonly used CSS3 properties, but not as much as I thought it will. Simple things like text-shadow should be in the list!!!

The built-in Developer Tools is definitely an added point to IE. Of all the Developer Tools in browsers (Safari and Chrome) I find IE9 has the simplest user interface, and it is useful too. Like how FireBug did, I can edit the code as I wish.

Just so you might lost, like I did. To enter an address you need to go to “File” -> “Open” and place in the address. IE9 Preview has the most simplest interface of all browsers, actually that was what I’m aftering, see how Google Chrome did it :)

But anyhow, it seems like IE9 Preview is mostly for offline testing eh?

The IE team is definitely heading the right direction! :)

P/S: By the way, what is with the font rendering doing in IE9?!

Wordpress

Back in 2004, I only heard about 2 blogging engines, Movable Type and WordPress. I didn’t choose those, because I have the mindset about mySQL and the PHP. Not sure why, probably because I was a noob back then. I registered as a blogger in Blogger instead.

After a few round of checking around the web, working on some funny web projects and selling them off, making me wonder what did I learn all those years. I was thinking to take things a bit more serious, so I joined the WordPress community.

However, I wasn’t that serious on web back then. It was advertising field that I’m hunting toward. Until 2 years ago, I started to develop WordPress and understand how it works.

There is this little problem I find with WordPress – update (or upgrade whichever you like to call it). It is both good and bad on the update. I got more secure and knowing that WordPress is still running on the net, and I get to learn more detailed features of the version.

This WordPress learning alone has already took me more than 10 hours per week!

The same old thing happen in my personal life too. You see, it is totally different when you compare a single person with a person with spouse. Whatever you can mention are not exactly what it will looks like, it’s more than that. Learning to adopt that is… Still weird for me. Think about having another 2 families going to form after a marriage, 1, in-law, 2, your own. There are a lot more situation to get use to and changes happen too. Starting to get formality for myself, top wrinkle creams are in my shopping list, gym is weekly must-go place and etc. A lifetime of learning…

Whatever I do, I can’t stop, especially getting use and learning some extra point in life and career. Even if I stop, I will have to pick it up again from the point I stopped, why bother???

For some reason, we both like to online too. Though sometimes we are rushing for some sudden “urgent” tasks, but normally, we too online non-stop.

So what did I do?

Design resources and articles

RSS
I read, yeah, right. Speaking of articles, I prefer to read tutorial :) It is all about the poetry, and that is all I need to look into and not the bla bla bla step instruction. Design resources, one of the top priorities for me and my job. I find a few bookmarks are quite helpful, sites like stock.xchng, istockphoto, icon finder and Ajax Rain.

This alone, probably took my 2 hours per day :P

Misc research

Research
A lot of time, we found or saw something weird or unexplainable. I will take note on my hand phone and bring it home and research. Well, things like how to get personalized baseball bats and the coming Bali trip are all in the list.

Scary thing is, this took me about 1 to 3 hours a day :?

Social network

Socialize
I probably just login and check on something interesting instead of playing game and chatting with friends. Sometimes, I felt that I joined the social network sites because everybody’s joining. In the end of the day, I still haven’t figure out any point though… Time I spend are mostly on Twitter, because it just a status update :P

Total time spend on social network 1 hour.

Already I spent 5 hours on something, that doesn’t really benefit a lot. When I start working, I would of course, research a bit here and there when I encounter problem. It seems like, EVERYTHING is about Internet and broadband. I started to feel that I can’t do a damn thing without an Internet connection :?

Coming here for the 3rd week. Still ok, at least getting used to the hot weather, and the… Almost no windows room :P

But somehow, there are still misunderstanding of our job, yes, we both, the job, as a web designer and a web developer?

We are here for a reason

First off, we did not came home on the Chinese New Year, so as a small replacement, we made it a full one month staying here in Medan. Bringing all our jobs here to make sure we follow up with what we did back in Sibu. At the same time, my wife is applying a 3 months social visa, so yes, its going to take some times, so it’s a month for us.

We have work to do at home

Even though like you think how we work – At home or anywhere as long as a broadband. However, it doesn’t mean we can work in Starbucks like others. We are still prefer to work like ordinary working adult, a good working desk with a good chair on a good siting proposition.

Can come home anytime

Private Jet

No. We can’t, until we owe a private jet, but we don’t. Coming back home takes more time than we can imagine. From Sibu to Kuala Lumpur, then from Kuala Lumpur to Medan. The timing wasn’t good, so we have time on transition of airplane too, which, eventually wasted half a day on airport.

So yeah, we are basically like everyone else, working at our own territory and don’t like to move (location wise) too much. Coming back and forth, and I need time to get use to a lot of stuff which makes me needing natural colon cleanser more and more. Some times, it is hard to let those who is outdated to keep up with our situation. I can of course, give a hand, when the timing is correct (read: Correct, mean after business hour).
