Adobe On Ubuntu

Finally got Adobe program run on Ubuntu system. It was a tough thought all the way since last night and continue to this afternoon. But hey, I got it works now
And I need it so badly too, because I use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator for my study… So doesn’t matter how, I need to get it work with me on my machine.

Obviously, Adobe Photoshop is either for Windows or Macintosh, so there must have something extra on Linux in order to run Adobe Photoshop on it. Some nice guys created this little tools called “Wine” and “Winetools“. What they do is create a fake Windows system on Ubuntu to get you install Windows’ application. Sound illegal to me at first
Anyway, I need to use a long pharse to get Photoshop start up everytime ![]()

And yet, the tools bar of Photoshop cannot be minimize when I minimized Photoshop. Or even when I use the “Save for web…” function, quite annoying for me though…

Here is how you install Adobe Photoshop. But first you need Wine and Winetools, you can get the easy instruction here. Just a few steps and few minutes, don’t worry. Then prepare your Adobe Photoshop CD. IMPORTANT: Works with Adobe Photoshop 7 CE ONLY. Now put in the CD then go to Terminal, by clicking on Application -> Accessories -> Terminal. Type in…
wine /media/cdrom0/Setup.exe
Obviously “cdrom0″ is the CD-Rom drive, and Setup.exe is the installation application. Edit the directory if needed. And it will start the progress like Windows
IMPORTANT: When asked for directory for Adobe Photoshop to install, put it in c:/windows/system32 folder instead of the default ones.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=”wintab32=n” wine Photoshop.exe
Then use this command in Terminal to run Photoshop everytime you wanted to use it. And DO NOT close the Terminal while Photoshop is still running. Photoshop need Terminal.
For this moment, everything seems to work fine, but not sure for the future. The loading of Photoshop is slightly faster than Windows for my point of view. But if you don’t like to load Photoshop, no problem, so and use Windows. There is dual boost available, but I didn’t use it… ![]()
